Complete internal renovation and replacement two storey extension on a stone built, 300-year-old Grade 2 Listed cottage situated in the beautiful hamlet of Acklam.
This was one of the first major projects undertaken by Bear Builders back in 2014 and is a showcase for the level of workmanship and standards the company sets.
2 Main Street in Acklam was a cottage which had become quite run down and had previously had alterations and additions which were not sympathetic to its listed status or character. The property was in urgent need of repair and full restoration.
Working with the owners, their architect and Conservation Officers, Bear Builders set about removing the low grade single story extension which had been constructed some fifteen years earlier and restoring interior features of the cottage such as brick arches, faced stone and heritage lime plasterwork.
While modern materials and methods were introduced to the property to make it fit for 21st century living, traditional materials and methods were used to preserve its important heritage.
The owners set the bar high for contemporary electrical and plumbing installations using the latest energy saving fittings and high end gas boiler, but were also keen to see traditional methods and materials used for the property. For example, Bear Builders used lime mortar and plaster and exposed and introduced features and details of the property which discreetly bring the cottage to life.
Project value Over £75k.
